Winter Care for Birdbaths and Fountains
To protect your birdbath or fountain during the winter months, we recommend the following precautions:
-
Remove Tops: Birdbath and fountain tops should not be left outside in freezing temperatures. When water or snow accumulates and freezes, it can cause cracking or damage.
-
Raise Bases and Statuary: All bases, bench legs, and statuary should be elevated off the ground to prevent them from freezing to the surface.
-
Store Indoors When Possible: Ideally, fountains should be stored indoors during the winter to shield them from harsh weather.
-
If Left Outdoors:
-
Remove all pumps, rubber stoppers, drain pipes, finials, and any small components.
-
Cover the fountain bowl with an absorbent material such as burlap, an old blanket, or towel.
-
Wrap the covered bowl with dark plastic to keep moisture out.
-
Ensure that no water collects and freezes in the basin.
-
-
Pump & Parts Storage: Store pumps, finials, and other small accessories indoors to prevent damage.
-
Regular Checks: Periodically inspect your fountain to ensure the cover remains secure and no water has accumulated.
Taking these simple steps will help preserve your outdoor decor and keep it looking beautiful for seasons to come.
